In The Netherlands, we have a travel game:
“I’m going on holiday and I’m taking with me…”
Each person adds one more thing.
And the list should never really end.
Jabba:
I’m taking Mum and Dad, of course.
And I’m taking you too, Jojo.
Jojo:
And I’ll make sure they don’t forget our food.
Jabba:
And treats!
Jojo:
And a generous supply of good humour and patience.
We’ll need both during three days of travel.
Jabba:
And lots of affection.
And cuddles.
Jojo:
Dutch cheese, English tea
and tartar sauce from Poland.
Jabba:
Speakers for listening to music.
Jojo:
A soft blanket.
Or two.
Jabba:
Photos of our loved ones.
Jojo:
Dental sticks.
Jabba:
Promises that we’ll learn Greek.
Jojo:
Let’s take a dictionary instead.
Jabba:
Openness — to people, a new language and a new culture.
Jojo:
With a strong focus on the new cuisine.
Jabba:
Books and drawing supplies for Mum.
Jojo:
Dad’s guitar.
Jabba:
A positive attitude — always and everywhere!
Jojo:
In that case, let’s also pack a four-leaf clover for luck…
