Life lessons from dogs

Life lessons from dogs

(what humans could learn from pugs)

How dogs see humans

Jojo has spent a considerable amount of time observing humans.

Mostly from the couch.
Occasionally from under the table.
And sometimes during walks, when they seem to be in a hurry for reasons that remain unclear.

After careful study, he has reached several conclusions.

Some of them involve hands.

Jabba:
Humans.

Jojo:
What about them?

Jabba:
They probably wish they had our paws instead of those hands with all those fingers.

Jojo:
Does seem a bit unnecessary.

Jabba:
Good for opening food packages.

Jojo:
That’s their one strong argument.

Jabba:
But otherwise…

Jojo:
Totally overengineered.

Jabba looks at her paws thoughtfully.

Jabba:
And of course, our hyper-sensitive noses.

Jojo:
Goes without saying.

Jabba:
Humans miss so many important smells.

Jojo:
Which explains many of their decisions.

What humans could learn from dogs

Jabba shifts closer, clearly warming up to the subject.

Jabba:
And our ability to sleep.

Jojo:
You mean while sitting?

Jabba:
While sitting.
While standing.
While leaning against something.

Jojo:
While someone is talking.

Jabba:
While someone is cooking.

Jojo:
While someone is explaining something complicated.

Jabba:
It’s our expertise.

Jojo:
Personally, I consider myself a champion.

Jabba nods respectfully.

Jabba:
But perhaps the most important difference between us and them…

Jojo:
I can’t wait. Go on.

Jabba pauses for dramatic effect.

Jabba:
We don’t give a shit.

Jojo blinks slowly.

Jojo:
Well… I can.

Jabba:
You know what I mean.

Jojo:
I do.

They sit quietly for a moment.

Jabba:
No.

Jojo:
We don’t analyse every little word someone said three days ago.

Jabba:
Definitely not.

Jojo:
And we don’t wake up at night thinking about emails.

Jabba shudders slightly.

Jabba:
That sounds terrible.

Jojo:
It probably is.

The simplicity of a dog’s life

Jabba leans her head against Jojo’s shoulder.

Jabba:
We only have love. For everyone. And for each other.

Jojo considers this carefully.

Jojo:
Yes.

That is a very efficient system.

Jabba:
If humans were a little more like us pugs…

Jojo stretches slowly.

Jojo:
The world would be a calmer place.

A pause.

Jojo:
And probably much better at napping.
