In Greece, conversations are rarely short.
And almost never without the essentials.
There is coffee.
There is food.
There is a table.
Jabba:
Have you noticed, Jojo, that everyone eats together here?
Jojo:
I have.
And I fully approve.
Family meals last a long time.
Often with several generations at one table.
They laugh.
They talk over one another.
They share food.
The doyen of the family always sits in a special place.
Surrounded by respect and love.
Jabba:
Maybe that’s why everyone here talks so much.
Jojo:
Conversation is the way to be together.
That’s how bonds are formed.
Problems solved.
Closeness expressed.
Then comes the music.
And dancing.
Often in a circle.
Together.
Jabba:
And filoxenia…
Jojo:
Yes, exactly, Greek hospitality.
A market seller offers fruit.
A farmer gives you his vegetables to try.
Refusing can even feel impolite.
Jabba:
So conversation, food and being together are basically one thing?
Jojo:
Exactly.
And us…
we’re always prepared.
Jabba:
For conversation?
Jojo:
For a repeat, of course 😉
